A smaller than usual group of players braved the wintry conditions to compete in the 4th Round of the Silver Spoon. Life Member Leila Beasley was at the club early to send the field off with a cheery wave but she wisely decided to retire to a warm room rather than brave the elements. The temperature didn’t get above 8 degrees and the biting wind made it feel even colder, scoring was going to be tough. Some low lying areas of the course are quite soggy but generally the fairways and greens are very good. High approached shots were holding well allowing confident strokes to the greens. Fortunately the threatening rain held off for the duration of the round. On a cold and windy day the results were;
Winner; Darlene Baker (17) – 35 pts from Pam Drummond (30) – 28 pts C/B, from Jenny Hartley (24), Wendy Gosden (29) – 26 pts
Saturday June 9th – Stroke
Another beautiful, early winter’s day, virtually no wind and clear skies with the sun poking through for most of the afternoon. Recent rain and heavy dews had left the course quite soft so relief, fairway played, was given. The cold air and soft fairways saw all players lose distance off the tee but those who were able to hit the greens in regulation were well rewarded. Despite the extra moisture the greens ran at a good pace however putts had to be right on line to find the cup; the usual movement on the greens at RGC is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. The field flowed well and all groups were back in the rooms inside four hours. The day’s results were;
Winner; Scott Williams – 88/17/71 from Les Gaunt – 83/9/74, Anthony Lakey – 96/22/74 & Sherif Abdel-Sayed – 98/24/74
NTPs; 1st & 16 – Mal Mottram, 15th – Anthony Lakey
Monday June 4th – 2018 Women Pennant Finals – Lancefield G. C.
The 2018 DDGA Women’s Pennant Finals were played at Lancefield. The course was in good nick with the usual fast greens and cover returning to the fairways. RGC was competing in Handicap Division 3 playing Avenel. The RGC team fought out five close matches to take the pennant.
Results on the day were;
Division 1; Marysville D Alexandra – 4/1
Division 2; Seymour D Broadford – 3/2

Proud players who represented RGC during the 2018 Pennant Season
Saturday June 2nd – Stableford
Wednesday May 30th – Monthly Medal – Stroke & Putts
The heavy rain of the previous afternoon and evening saw the course a deal softer than in recent weeks. The ongoing mild autumn weather saw good growth across the course. Again players who were able to find the fairways and hit the greens in regulation gave themselves a real chance to card a decent score. While everyone lost distance once the ball landed the softness of the course proved a real positive with all greens holding well and putting true. On another mild, late autumn day the results were;
Winner & May Medalist; Darlene Baker – 90/17/73 from Elaine Scanlon – 105/31/75
Least putts; Pam Drummond – 23

Thursday May 24th – Strathbogie Bowl – Strathbogie G. C.
A Romsey contingent of Lorraine Robb, Wendy Gosden and Darlene Baker made their way to Strathbogie for the 2018 Strathbogie Bowl. The two hour journey commenced in overcast and cold conditions but on arrival at the Strathbogie course the sun was shining and the skies were clearing. The course was in very good condition with evenly covered fairways. As usual, the greens were particularly good. Strathbogie is a long course and the softer, well grassed fairways stole distance from each shot. The Romsey team had a commendable total score of 90 points.
Winners of the 2018 Strathbogie Bowl; Marysville 98 pts.
Wednesday May 23rd – Stableford
The temperature hovered around 12C and a misty rain prevailed as the women headed out for a round of Stableford. The general atmosphere was a convivial one as most players enjoyed the more relaxed format after the concentration involved with Club Championships and pennant matches in the last three weeks. The course was quite heavy and scoring proved to be very difficult for most. On a cool, misty day the results were;
Winner; Jenny Hartley, from Darlene Baker & Elaine Scanlon
Tuesday May 22nd – Kyneton 4BBB – Kyneton G. C.
Pam Drummond and Wendy Gosden represented RGC at the 2018 Kyneton 4BBB. The fairways were excellent but the greens “tricky”. Both RGC members enjoyed a good round in cloudy, cool conditions carding an excellent 37 pts. As usual a great lunch was enjoyed by all.
The A grade winners scored 39 pts in a 3 way countback.
B grade was also a countback with Trentham defeating Kyneton with 40 pts. .
