Wednesday September 7th – Stableford

The course was in very good condition for the stableford round. With the dry start to Spring the course had dried out considerably from the previous week.  The fairways offered some run and the greens were receptive to the ball coming in from a high trajectory. The conditions on the course are a credit to our many hardworking volunteers. The day’s results were;
1st.     Darlene Baker.      (18) 33 pts
2nd.   Jenny  Hartley.      (21) 29 pts  C/B
3rd.    Kath Jekabsons.   (39) 29 pts

Saturday September 3rd – Final – W. E. Tom Shield & Stroke

The day dawned misty and overcast but by hit-off the sun had poked through a for a cool afternoon however, the SSW wind rarely dropped under 30Kph making some holes play very long while a gust would push balls well wide on other holes.  Almost 35mm fell on the course on Mon/Tue, the drains ran full all week and there was virtually no mowing so all fairways  and most surrounds had areas of long grass.  Again, players had to watch every shot carefully for fear of plugging.   The final of the W. E. Tom Shield proved to be a closely fought affair but in the end seven birdies from the Wright brothers was enough to see them over the line.  The stroke round was a much more challenging with only one player coming close to or bettering his handicap.  On a cool day on a wet course the results were;

1st; Luke Lyons – 86/16/70

2nd; Mitch Atlas – 84/7/77 C/B

3rd; Sherif Abdel-Sayed – 111/34/77

Saturday August 27th – August Medal, semi-finals W. E. Tom Shield

It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon, with virtually no wind, for the August Medal and the semi-finals of the W. E. Tom Shield.  With another 51mm of rain during the week the course was again way too wet for machinery so the fairways were soft with areas of long grass, plates had to watch carefully or risk losing a ball in the middle of the fairway.   As the cards came in it looked that a score of one under would take the day but the final group contained two top results.

The W. E. Tom Shield semi-finals were both closely fought matches with all pairs playing excellent golf,  One final got to four-up before slowly getting back to all square by the 18th.  The other match was close until the 13th where a run of good holes saw the semi decided.  On a beautiful day to be out on the course the results were;

Thursday August 25th – Pat Dockery Challenge Bowl, Broadford G. C.

Golfers were keen to get back into tournament play after a long winter break and headed to Broadford for the Pat Dockery Challenge Bowl. As with a lot of golf courses in the district at the moment the course was wet under foot, in places, but otherwise was in good condition. The rain held off and conditions were quite pleasant with no wind at all. A lovely lunch was enjoyed by all as friends were able to catch up and chat with those that hadn’t seen for a few months.
The Kilmore team was able to put together the best combined score to win the Bowl.

1st; Sandra Wicking, Jill Banon and Di Dixon.
Runners Up; Elaine Scanlon, Jenny Hartley and Darlene Baker (only two points behind the winning team)

Jenny had the best score (31 points) of the Romsey team and earned herself 4 Player of the Year Points, top effort Jenny.

Wednesday August 24th- Stableford

The course has had plenty of winter rain lately but is in good condition. Apart from a couple of wet areas getting from green to tee the fairways are very good. There was of course no run but that’s winter golf.   The greens were very receptive and running true.  Daily Results

Saturday August 20th – Quarter finals W. E. Tom Shield and two-player Ambrose.

With steady rain falling for much of the morning attracting a good field for the day’s competition looked  to be very challenging.  The eight teams still contesting the W. E. Tom. Shield were playing their quarter finals but the extreme weather saw  half the teams did turning up so all four finals were walkovers.  The very heavy conditions saw the daily competition changed to Two-player Ambrose. It was a tough day with steady rain for the first four holes then a gusting wind from the Sth/SW.  Over the back nine the sun came out but it never really warmed up.  On a soggy course the results were;

1st; Mick Nicholls Jnr/Pat Chisholm – 76/5.75/70.25

2nd; Mal Mottram/Sherif Abdel-Sayed – 81/9.7/71.30

3rd; Shannon Wright/Mitch Atlas – 76/4.25/71.75

NTPs; 15th – Pat Chisholm, 16th – Mal Mottram

The Semi Finals of the 2022 W. E. Tom Shield will be;

      1. Shannon Wright (7)/Daniel Wright (0) Vs Mal Mottram (3)/Davey Kenney (9)

     2. John Freestone (15) /Bob McLennan (3) Vs  Pat Chisholm (0)/Mick Nicholls Jnr (1)

(To be played on, or before, September 3rd)

Wednesday August 17th – Par

The forecast rain stayed away but evidence of previous downpours remains in places making the course quite soft.  The effects of the new drainage works were evident with water rushing through the drains, down the course and into the lower dam.   Going was tough as shown by the scores with Elaine Scanlon being the stand out with a very commendable -2 in the Par event.
18 Hole Comp
1st      Elaine Scanlon (33); -2
9 Hole Comp
1st.      Jan Harver C/B Lorraine Robb.

Saturday August 13th – Stableford – W. E. Tom Qualifying Rd

A strong field teed off in the club’s oldest shield; the W. E. Tom 4BBB, first contested in 1965.  Apart from the odd wet spot here and there the course, while soft, was in generally excellent condition.  The Corellas have returned about four months early (what is going on?) and caused some damage on a few of the greens keeping club captain, Mal Mottram, busy late into the Friday evening.  With only light winds the longer hitters had the advantage but accurate approach shots were the most important.  All greens had good pace and  were running very true.  The top eight pairs go through to the quarter finals next Saturday where they will be playing handicap matchplay.  On a beautiful day for golf the results were;

1st; Jim Patton(19)/Josh Squire (32) – 46pts

2nd; Shannon (10) & Daniel Wright (3) – 42 pts

3rd; John Freestone (26)/Bob McLennan(14) – 40 pts C/B from Mal Mottram (6)/Davey Kenney (12)

NTPs; 15th – Davey Kenney, 16th – Mal Mottram

Special mention to past captain, Tony Freeman, who took out the August Rich River Monthly Medal with a nett score of 67.

The Quarter Finals of the 2022 W. E. Tom Shield will be;

1. Shannon (7) & Daniel Wright (0) V 8. Walkover

3. Mal Mottram (1)/Davey Kenney (7) V 6. Andrew Clement (3)/Mick Squire (0)

2. John Freestone (11) /Bob McLennan (0) V 7. Keith Hocking (15)/Mick Nicholls Snr (12)

4.  Scott Williams (3)/Chris vanDerVliet (17) V 5.  Pat Chisholm (0)/Mick Nicholls Jnr (1)

Wednesday August 9th – Stroke

The decision was made to play a 9 Hole comp on an extremely cold and wintry day. Players soldiered on finding it difficult to warm up as the temperature hovered around 4 degrees.
With very little run on the fairways accuracy from the tee was important with wayward shots proving costly. Competition was close as shown in the results.
Results for 9 Hole Comp
1st.        Darlene Baker   – 50/8/42
2nd.      Jenny Hartley    – 53/10/43
3rd.       Wendy Gosden   – 58/14/44
