Wednesday April 27th – Monthly Medal, stroke & putts

On a fine sunny day with the course in top condition scores were good. Darlene Baker won the stroke competition 87-17-70 from Rob Slade 86-15-71 and third was Lis Manktelow 102-29-73. The nine hole comp was won by Bruce Robb 50-15-35
2nd Hugh Williams 45-9-36 on a coutback from Kath Jekabsons 56-20-36.
NTP on 15th was won by Rob Slade.

Sunday April 24th – Rd 3 Pennant

Another top afternoon for the 3rd round of Men’s pennant.  Seymour and Kilmore golf clubs had done a tremendous job getting their courses into  their best possible condition.

Div 4  H/C Vs Woodend @ Kilmore

Kilmore had suffered very heavy damage from corellas  across the whole course and the greens were recently cored so all players got a few surprises when putting.  RGC results were; Scott Williams L1dn, Davey Kenney L4/3, Bob McLennan L6/5,Rob Rea W2/1, Steve Wilkins L2Dn.  Overall results were;

Hidden Valley D Lancefield – 5/0

Saturday April 23rd – 4BBB Stroke & Algie Mitchell Shield Final

Almost 100mm of rain  early in the week followed by sunnier, warmer days saw excellent growth, especially on the fairways.  Plenty of couch showing through auguring well for later in the year when the heat returns.  Play began on a still clear day with no sign of rain and plenty of mid autumn sun.  The day also saw the  final of the Algie Mitchell Shield, handicap matchplay.  The 4BBB stroke groups took advantage of the conditions to generally perform well with some excellent scoring.

The Algie Mitchell final saw Mick Nicholls Jnr jump out to an early lead and then play very sensible conservative golf.  No matter what  Scott Williams did he  was just not able to peg Mick back.  On a top day to be pout on the park the results were;

2nd; Mal Mottram (6)/Kev Dunn (26) – 65

3rd; Steve Wilkins (17)/Shannon Wright(8) – 68

Thursday April 21st – Broadford Bowl

Thursday 21st April was the Broadford womens tournament Weather was cool with some drizzle but no wind so a comfortable day. A playoff to decide the scratch winner was held between Linda Marchesi from Trentham and Mary Campbell from Broadford, and was won by Linda on the first playoff hole.Therefore Linda won the shield and Mary won the A Grade net with 73 net. B Grade net was won by Helen Howard from Marysville and C grade net won by Bev Bellman also from Marysville.
Darlene Baker from Romsey won A grade runner up with 76 net and Jenny Hartley won a NTP on the 11th hole.

Wednesday April 20th – Matchplay

A round of Matchplay in preparation for the start of the women’s pennant created some tight matches. The previous two days of rain had softened up the fairways and made the greens very receptive. Competition was fierce with the results as follows –

Saturday April 16th – Algie Mitchell Semi-finals & Par (G4aC – $5 to Drummond Golf – Cancer Research)

What a stunning autumn day to be out on the park.    Fairways in top condition, greens fast and true and surrounds remain in best ever condition.  Par can be a tough competition with no reward for birdies or eagles but it keeps all golfers honest.  A number of players put together tremendous front or back nines but only those who could sustain their efforts over all 18 holes had any chance of taking out the day.  Over $100 dollars was raised for thee Drummond Golf Cancer Research fund.  The day’s results were;

Wednesday April 13th – Stroke, 3rd round Silver Spoon

Good conditions and course in good condition. Daily competition, Stroke;

The day also saw the  3rd round of  Golf Australia’s  Silver Spoon.

Monday April 11th – Jean Wallder Bowl – Yea G. C.

The Jean Wallder bowl was held and hosted this year by Yea. This is the DDGA Bowl and a stroke event. Romsey entered a team of Darlene Baker Jenny Hartley and Wendy Gosden.

There were 12 teams entered and the bowl was won by RACV Healsville with a total net of 226, Davai Jorgensen 81, Karen Stevenson 73 and Anne Whitmore 72 net.  2 strokes in front of Yea 2. A Grade was won by Glenda Woods net 75, B Grade Christine Simmons 73 net and C Grade by Sharon Grogan with a net 70.

Scratch Div 2 – Romsey Vs Strathbogie at Lancefield

A beautiful afternoon for the 2nd round of pennant.  Both Woodend and Lancefield were in top nick so good golf was expected and fierce competition was the order of the day.  The scratch team took on Strathbogie.   RGC results were; Mal Mottram -L, Mitch Atlas – W, Brad Klaaysen – L, Shannon Wright – L5/3, Simon Donavon – L

Saturday April 9th – 1/4 Finals Algie Mitchell Shield & Stroke

Players teed off on a cool, mid-autumn afternoon.   The weather improved gradually however, about half way through there was a steady shower that brought the umbrellas out.   Once the shower cleared there were intermittent  cool, overcast skies followed by warmer, sunnier periods.  On a challenging afternoon the results were;
