Saturday May 14th – Rd 2 2022 Club Championships

Despite a few players out of the field due to Covid-19 and weddings there was another good turn out for the 2nd round off the 2022 Club Championship.  A heavy dew and a nasty wind from the NW made it a challenging afternoon and all players had to  think very carefully about their line and club selection.  Softer fairways also made for longer approach  shots.  A highlight of the round was  “Hole in One” by Mick Nicholls Jnr on the 147m Par 3.  A top shot that deserved to go in.  Others found putts centimetres short or rolling almost over the cup but refusing to drop.  On another tough day on the course the results were;

Winner; Chris Burkett –  86/18/68

2nd; Andrew Laing – 86/17/69

3rd; John Freestone – 97/25/72

Saturday May 7th – Rd 1 – 2022 Club Championships

The 1st round of the 2022 RGC Club Championships began under dark skies with a gusting wind from the S/SW.  Recent rains had made all fairways soft this, and the cold air, meant that everyone lost distance in the air and one a ball landed.  The greens and surrounds were in top condition however, a few tricky pin placements saw many a groan as putts slipped passed the cup.  Life member, Peter Scanlon teed up for his 66th consecutive club championships and whilst the golf was not quite as good as 50 years ago he enjoyed the round and all members were very pleased to have Peter back out on the course and in the rooms for a chat and a quiet drink after the round.  Over the final few holes the temperature dropped and steady drizzle moved in.  On a challenging day for the 1st round of the clubbies the results were;

Winner; Mick Squire;  77/4/73

2nd; Mal Mottram ; 80/6/74

3rd; Ralph Senn – 93/18/75

Saturday April 30th – April Medal, stroke & putts

The rain predicted for the morning seemed to have fallen overnight and the April Medal field teed off under clear skies with sun poking through here and there.   Conditions steadily improved over the round and jumpers soon came off.  Given the 30mm+ of rain a and the resulting wetter, softer course players were allowed “Mark, Lift, Clean & Replace”.  Later in the round a Westerly wind blew up forcing players to think very carefully about club selection or risk being either short  or long  on a number of holes.  Over the final holes the temperature dropped and all were very happy to be back in the rooms.  On a generally good day to be out on the course the results were;
