Saturday February 25th -2023 Summer Cup, Rd 4B – Medal, stroke & putts.

The final round of the 2023 Summer Cup saw another excellent field tee off, conditions were generally good but a strong wind from the Sth had a few players worried.  Luckily the wind died down as the afternoon warmed up.  With a  small group hitting off early and returning some excellent scores  the pressure was on from the 1st tee.  Despite  no rain since late December the fairways were in good condition giving all players excellent run and good lies for their shots.  Given the conditions a number of players played well under their handicaps. On a warm and slightly windy afternoon the results were;

1st & February Medalist; Rob Rea – 84/19/65

Sunday February 19th – Relay For Life Charity Golf Day – Four Player Ambrose

Players arrived around nine for a quiet cuppa and a chat before teams were sent off to their tees for a shot-gun start at 10.00.  The corellas had savaged three greens but one group, Motley Cru, volunteered to head off early and do and much damage control as possible.   Play began under fine conditions with nary a breath of wind, good scoring was expected.  As is often the case with Ambrose teams picked up one or two birdies before a careless shot resulted in a bogey.  The day raised over $1,600 for cancer research, a top result.  Club president Anthony Lakey thanked the event’s sponsor – Romsey Mitre-10, this was the 7th year they have sponsored the day, the many members of Puddle’s RFL Team who prepared and served the food and the RGC members who staffed the bar.  On a beautiful day to be out on the park the results were;

Saturday February 18th – 2023 Summer Cup, Rd 3B – Stableford

After two days of 35ºC a temperature in the low to mid 20s was much appreciated.   Players hit off with a steady southerly wind but this faded to a gentle breeze by about the 9th hole.  The fairways had hardened so everyone got excellent value for well struck shots.  The greens were fast and true; a number of players required only one putt on well over half their holes. It was a day of two halves for quite a few golfers; scoring low teens on one nine then well into the 20s on the the other nine.  On a sunny afternoon the results were;

1st; Keith Hocking (31) – 38 pts

2nd; Mick Nicholls Snr (26) – 37 pts C/B

3rd; Mal Mottram (9) – 37pts

NTPs; 15th – Luke Lyons, 16th – Bob McLennan

Saturday February 11th – 2023 Summer Cup, Rd 2B – Stroke

Another fine, sunny mid summer’s day for the club’s stroke round of the 2023 Summer Cup.  The fairways remained green with plenty of couch showing through.   However, they  had dried so  everyone got excellent for any well struck shot.  Adjustments to sprinklers near  a few greens saw drier surrounds and greens.   About half way through the front nine a steady westerly wind blew up making a few holes play much longer and forcing all to think carefully when playing down wind.  It was  also good to welcome back ex-member Jim Patton, down from Rich River in Echuca.  On a lovely day to be out on the park the results were;

Winner; Clive Mensforth – 113/42/71 c/b

2nd; Jenny Hartley – 94/23/71

3rd;  Davey Kenney – 86/14/72 C/B Craig Sandy

NTPs; 1st – Mick Nicholls Snr, 15th – Jim Patton

At the halfway mark  of the 2023 Summer Cup the top five players are – Rob Slade – 18pts, Darlene Baker – 15pts, Jenny Hartley – 12pts, Elaine Scanlon – 10pts & Clive Mensforth – 8pts.

Wednesday February 8th – 2023 Summer Cup, Rd 2A – Stroke

Another perfect day for the second round of the Summer Cup with the course and greens in great condition. The course volunteers continue to do a great job combating the pesky Corellas, hopefully they will move on soon.  Scoring was very consistent with a three way count back on nett 69 to determine the winner. Results  were;
1st;  Darlene Baker  – 88/19/69    C/B
2nd;  Rod Holding – 101/32/69    C/B

Saturday February 4th – 2023 Summer Cup, Rd 1B – Par

After almost 20mm of rain over Thurs, Fri and Sat morning and with drizzle falling  things looked little bleak at 12.00pm as players filed out of the rooms to the tees  for the RGC Summer Cup Par round.  The weather soon brightened with sun shining through and the wind coming in gusts now and then.  The fairways remained in good nick but a number of the greens and surrounds had some casual water.  It was tricky approaching all greens as a shot just a metre short often went no further.  The Summer Cup is in memory of those who have gone before us and the club has lost some remarkable members over the past few years; it was good to chat about some of these individuals and remember both their golfing exploits and what they gave to the club and community.  On a warm afternoon the results were;

1st; Rob Rea (19) +1

2nd; Scott Williams (17) Square

3rd; Pat Chisholm (12) -1  C/B Mitch Atlas (8), Luke Lyons (14), Clive Mensforth (35)

NTPs; 1st – Mal Mottram, 15th – Scott Williams
