Another ~30mm of rain fell over Friday night leaving casual water on a number of fairways, some wet spots on a few greens and all were able to see the new drains moving water off the course.  The weather was almost perfect, a spot of overcast skies then the sun came through and generally, the breeze had just the slightest effect on most shots.   The final of the club’s oldest shield, The W. E. Tom 4BBB, looked to be very interesting, two old stagers against two up and comers.  Handicaps were certainly going to play a big part in the result; it was more than challenging to have to birdie a hole just to halve it.  The Stableford field faced the challenges of the course and it took many players quite a few holes to come to grips with the conditions.  Almost all the field had ordinary front nines and much better back nines.  However, in most cases, the damage had been done.  On a beautiful mid spring day on a wet course the results were;

Stableford Winner; Toby Clement (23) – 33pts C/B from Mal Mottram (8) from Rob Slade (24) – 32pts

The W. E. Tom Final result;

J Patton (15)/M Squire (0) R Davies (19)/S Donovan (11) – 4/3

The Algie Mitchell Shield, much overdue but still going, semi played earlier in the week.
