Saturday August 17th – W. E. Tom Shield Final & Par
After a good, largely dry week the rain began to fall on Friday and again for much of Saturday morning. The course was wet, fairways were softer and greens were difficult to navigate. The cool weather hung around until mid afternoon when the sun shone through and made for a perfect afternoon for a walk. The W. E. Tom Shield final was away first and it was another interesting contest. Harris/Donovan got away to a blinder going five-up after eight holes but Mottram/Kohler rallied with Kohler chipping in on the 11th, Mottram putting like he was hitting into a bucket and birding 14th. With three to play Donovan/Harris were one-up, Donovan pared 16th (picking up NTP) and Harris took the 17th to take the day. The Par field found the going tough; one player came close to his handicap and only one player was able to better his. On a day of two very different conditions the results were;
1st; Zac Scales (36) +2
2nd; Andrew Clement (12) -1
3rd; Davey Kenney (12) -6 C/B Mick Squire (4)
NTPs; 16th – Simon Donovan
