Saturday August 16th – Final W. E. Tom Shield & Par
After two wonderful, sunny late winter’s days the weather returned to a more normal state and all players felt the chill as they headed to the tee. The sun did come out later in the day but the temperature barely topped 7C. The final of the W. E. Tom Shield was always going to be tough, four excellent players who were more than proficient in handicap match-play. Neither team was able to get more than one or two holes up before the other team responded. In the end it went down to the 19th hole. Par is always a challenging form of golf with a birdie or eagle just counting as a plus. All golfers found it hard to play steady golf and only one was able to play close to his handicap. There were the usual “hard luck” stories of putts lipping out and balls hitting the stick and rebounding off the green but that’s golf. On a a cold afternoon the results were;
1st; Sherif Abdel-Sayed (31) -2
2nd; Toby Clemente (15) -4
3rd; Andrew Clement (9) -5 C/B Davey Kenney (12)
NTPs; 7/14 – Davey Kenney, Longest Drive 3/12 – Davey Kenney, D&P 2nd – Dylan Harris
