Saturday November 23rd – John Laing Shield final & Par

The heat predicted for the afternoon saw the club’s Heat Policy activated and play began at 8.30am.  With the northerly wind pushing up to 40Kph and the course continuing to dry players got extra length on some holes, on others the wind pulled balls up even blowing them off line.  The greens and surrounds remain in top condition and the couch on the fairways continues to thicken.  The John Laing Final, Bob McLennan (multiple times B Grade Champion) Vs Mick Squire (multiple times Club Champion) looked to be a very interesting match.  Unfortunately the John Laing final had to be postponed.

Sunday November 17th – Graeme Clement Open & Romsey Women’s Open

A good field, from clubs both inside and outside Dalhousie District, enjoyed an egg and bacon roll breakfast and caught up with players they may not have seen for some time while everyone awaited for final groups and hit-off.  Play began under generally good conditions bar the wind.  The wind, from the N/NW gusted to over 50Kph and made some shots extremely difficult.  The rain held off until all bar one group were in the rooms enjoying a roast lunch.

This is what Committee decided should go up for open.

A big shout out to the sponsors for the Romsey Tournament weekend.

Day one of the 2024 Romsey Graeme Clement Open and the Romsey Women’s Open tournament, again sponsored by the Romsey Bottle-O saw an early hit-off, 11.00am.  The field faced rising temperatures and a strong, northerly wind gusting between 35Kph and 50Kph, however, the predicted rain did not eventuate. Towards the end of the round the temperature topped out at  just under 30C; the first real hint of what summer might be.  The course, and the whole of Romsey Park, was in top condition so shots that went array were easily found and the field was not held up.

Wednesday 13th November – Stableford

Due to the dark clouds and forecast of showers it was decided to change the competition from stroke to stableford. With four seasons coming in one day on Friday it was good that the weather, ~20C and a gentle breeze from the N/NW, had settled for the Saturday round.  The semi-finals of the John Laing Shield and the women’s Singles Knock-out were also being played.  All four golfers in the John Laing  had claims to take the shield so the semis were going to be tough.  On a more settled day the results were;

Saturday November 2nd – Q/finals John Laing Shield & stroke

Play got under way on a clear, sunny afternoon with a temperature in the low 20sC.  However, the N/NE wind pushed up past  40Kph and caused problems for everyone.  The fairways, surrounds and greens were in top condition so no reason for a bad score there.  The quarter finals of the John Laing Shield, singles matchplay, were on and each match was expected to be tough.   Unfortunately Steve Wilkins had badly damaged his wrist giving Andrew Clement a walk-over.  The day’s results were;

1st; John Freestone – 104/30/74
