Wednesday February 7th – 2024 Summer Cup Rd 1B – Par

Another glorious day on a well prepared course for the Wednesday session of the 1st Round of the Summer Cup.  The format was Par with only two scores on the right side of the ledger; scoring was tricky in the gusty winds that arrived late in the round.  Sherif Abdel-Sayed played a very consistent round to card an excellent score.  The competition results were;
1st – Sherif Abdel-Sayed  (29); +3
2nd – Rob Mc Donald       (17); +2
3rd – Kath Jekabsons       (38);  -2 (C/B from Jenny Hartley)
NTPs; 1st-Darlene Baker, 3rd-Darlene Baker & 16th – Rob McDonald

Saturday February 3rd – Summer Cup Rd 1A – Par

The 2024 Summer Cup began on a hot, sunny afternoon.  With the temperature predicted to be 31C+ the umbrellas and sunscreen were both in play.  As the round progressed a wind blew up (~20kph) from the N/NNW and some higher, approach shots did drift well away from the green.  There was excellent cover on the fairways however, the recent hotter, dryer weather saw everyone get great value for well struck shots.   While just about all players had a few good holes followed by lesser performances two players held their nerve over the whole 18 holes.  Six birdies going a long way to a good card, but just not quite good enough.  On a hot, sunny day the results were;

1st; Zac Scales (39) +3 C/B

2nd; Mick Squire (7) + 3

3rd; Mitch Atlas (7) – +1

NTPs; 1st – Anthony Lakey, 15th – Mitch Atlas, 16th – Luke Lyons, Best 2nd shot 3rd – Mick Squire

Wednesday January 31st – January Medal, stroke & putts

With only 11 putts on the first nine holes Jenny Hartley made a flying start to the January Monthly Medal.  With a very consistent second nine she produced a final score of nett 68 to secure the win, well done Jenny.   The well presented fairways and great greens contributed to the good scores on the day. The day’s results were;
1st & January Medalist: Jenny Hartley – 92/24/68
2nd: David Jones – 93/22/71
3rd: Rob Mc Donald – 95/17/78 C/B Lorraine Robb and Beryl Cole.

Saturday January 27th – January Medal, stroke & putts

The round began under clear skies with the wind of 15 -20Kph moving between S/SE/W.  The course was again in great condition however, a few machinery problems and volunteers away on a break meant the rough was more than challenging on some holes.  Generally it was a great day for golf but the field seemed to find ways to not play to their handicaps.  The day’s results were;

1st & January Medalist; Ben Owen – 90/17/73

2nd; Scott Williams – 92/17/75 C/B

3rd; Luke Lyons – 82/7/75

NTPs; 15th – Davey Kenney, 16th – Scott Williams, Best 2nd shot 3rd – Mitch Atlas

A big congratulations to Mick and Josh Squire who took out the DDGA Australia Day 4BBB at Seymour G. C.  A top score of 47 was all that was required.

Wednesday January 24th – Stableford

The course was in excellent condition for the Stableford round and thanks goes to our band of volunteers who have been working overtime. The fairways are lush and the greens wonderful.  Daily results ;
1st.    Hugh Williams (18)   34 points
2nd.   Jenny Hartley  (23)  26 pts
3rd.    Darlene Baker  (18)  25 pts,  c/b Ron Cole (32) 25 pts

Saturday January 20th – Ambrose

Players teed off under clears skies with a gentle wind from the North of around 25Kph.  The recent rains and warmer weather had seen tremendous growth across the whole of Romsey Park and the club’s volunteers had been hard pressed to keep it under control.  All fairways had tremendous santa ana couch cover and the greens were almost back to their best.  The teams enjoyed a relaxed round but the odd friendly competition between players kept  everyone on their toes.  On another top day to be out on the course the results were;

1st; Simon Donovan/Sean Scales/Davey Kenney/Zac Scales – 69/11.5/57.5

2nd;  Andrew CLement/Chris vanDerVliet/Dylan Harris/Toby Clement – 66/8/58

3rd; Roger Baker/Luke Lyons/Scott Williams/Darlene Baker – 66/7.75/58.25

NTPs; 1st – Steve Wilkins, 16th – Simon Donovan, 2nd shot 3rd – Simon Donovan

Saturday January 13th – Stableford

The round began under cool, slightly overcast conditions with a  wind, from the S/SW, pushing into the mid 30Kph.  Recent rain and heat had seen tremendous growth across the whole of Romsey Park and, while all fairways had been “trimmed” using the rough mowers, not all had been cut with the fairway mower so a few fairways had cover well  in excess of 30mm.   After the first few holes light drizzle began to fall making for slippery grips and seeing many balls skipping off the greens from less than perfect approach shots.  On a challenging day the results were;

1st; Mick Squire (7) – 37 pts

2nd; Davey Kenney (16) – 36 pts

3rd; Shaun Scales (27) – 35 pts

NTPs; 15th – Crag Sandy, 16th – Mick Squire

Saturday January 6th – 4B Multiplier Stableford

Another top summer’s day, wind from the NNE at about 25Kph and a top temperature of ~28C.  Rain and heavy dews during the week meant the fairways had not ben mown so everyone lost a little distance here and there.  The greens had been repaired and the surrounds were again in top condition.  The teams took to the course with gusto and were quickly racking up the pars and even a few birdies but 4B Multiplier can be a cruel game; if one player excels with a four pointer yet the other scores a 1 or wipes the team scores 4 or 0.  In the end only one team scored under 60 pts so a good day on the course.  Special mention to Luke Lyons whose 2nd shot on the par 4, 3rd hole finished just centimetres from the cup.  On a top day to be out on the park the results were;

1st; Simon Donovan (10)/Ben Owen ()19) – 79 pts

2nd; Bob McLennan (14)/Luke Lyons (9) – 68 pts  C/B

3rd; Mitch Atlas (7)/Mick Nicholls Snr (22) – 68 pts

NTPs; 15th Michael McCarten, 16th – John Moody, Best 2nd shot on 3rd – Luke Lyons.

Monday January 1st – New Year’s Day Stableford.

At last, a real summer’s day, temperature in the high 20sC and a wind, moving between N to SW of about 20Kph.  The corellas had again been at work but most damage had been repaired.  The course was in tip top condition as the field took to the tees.  The day saw some astounding golf on one hole, often followed by a less than impressive next hole.  As luck would have it a  few shots found a tree and either bounced deeper into the trees or fell just short of the green.  On a beautiful day to be out on the park the results were;

1st; Ben Owen (20) – 40 pts

2nd; Mitch Atlas (6) – 36 pts

3rd; Simon Austin (18) – 35 pts C/B Andrew Clement (10) & Bob McLennan (14)

NTPs; 1st – Mitch Atlas, 15th – Ben Owen, 16th – Ben Owen, Best 2nd shot 3rd hole – Andrew Clement
