Saturday September 23rd – September Medal, stroke & putts

The good early spring weather and the September Medal brought out a strong field of  golfers and everyone enjoyed the top conditions.  As is often the case, the excellent conditions did not always translate to top scoring with even the best golfers having some seriously bad holes.  On a stunning day to be out on the park the results were;

1st; Zac Scales – 114/41/72

2nd; Mick Squire – 79/5/74

3rd; Dean Kohler – 87/14/75

Least Putts; Dean Kohler – 27

NTPs; 1st – Pat Chisholm, 15th – Dylan Harris, 16th – Brad Klaaysen

Drive & Pitch 3rd; Simon Donovan

RGC September Medalist, Zac Scales

Wednesday 20th September. – Pinehurst.

The forecast looked fairly ordinary, cold with a strong chance of rain but undeterred golfers arrived ready to face whatever Mother Nature threw at them.  The sun shone through and pushed the temperature up to about 15C.  A steady NW wind kept players on their toes.  Pinehurst has teams of two, using 3/8 of their combined handicaps, with both driving then playing their partner’s ball to achieve the best position.  Once the best location for the 2nd shot is chosen players only play that ball and  share shots.  The day’s results were;

1st: Elaine Scanlon (33) & Rob Slade(16) – 97/18.38/78.62
2nd: Wendy Gosden(32) & Kath Jekabsons(38) – 107/26.25/80.75.

Saturday September 16th – Stableford

What a stunning spring day, the course beautifully  green, if a little soft here and there, great cover on the fairways and surrounds and the greens fast and true.  A northerly wind blew up during the round causing a spot of bother, especially for the high ball hitters.  Despite the generally good conditions no on e wad angle to brass the handicap.  On a wonderful day to be out on the park the results were;

1st; Simon Donovan (11) – 35pts

2nd; Rob Gillian (11) – 34 pys

3rd; Mick Nicholls Snr (22) – 33 pts

NTPs; 1st – Luke Lyons, 15th – Ben Owen & 16th – Andrew Clement

Wednesday September 13th – Ambrose

It was the first virtually perfect day for golf since mid autumn.  The morning was sunny, warm and still ant the course looked great.  The players appreciated all the hours spent by volunteers mowing across the park. In keeping with their fishing friends, when the players came in they told stories of great shots played or seen during the round.  On the first really beautiful spring day to be out on the course the results were;
1st; Sevi Williams(13) & Sherif Abdel-Sayed(26) – 81 / 9.75 / 71.25
2nd; Kath Jekabsons(38) & Rob Slade(16) – 86 / 13.5 / 72.5.
3rd; Elaine Scanlon(33) & Hugh Williams(20) – 91 / 13.25 / 77.75.

Thursday September 7th – DDGA Women’s Foursomes

The Dalhousie District Women’s Foursome was held at Euroa on Thursday in fine but windy conditions. The course was in good condition with the greens a dream to putt on.
Romsey Golf Club was ably represented by Elaine Scanlon and Darlene Baker. Both players had an enjoyable round with lots of laughs with their highlight of the day being a birdie on the par 3, 8th hole where Elaine sank a four metre putt.  Winners on the day were Terri O’Callahan (Tentham) and Di Byrne (Seymour)

Saturday September 9th – Stableford

With almost 20mm falling over Thursday and Friday the course was again soft with some casual water on a few fairways.  The round began under overcast skies with a sprinkling of rain and a steady northerly wind.  As the afternoon wore on the sun shone through and the wind slowed.  Despite the improving conditions scoring proved difficult for most of the field with no-one braking their handicaps.  On a cool, slightly sunny afternoon the results were;

1st; Mal Mottram (8) – 36pts

2nd; Scott Williams (17) – 35 pts C/B

3rd; Davie Kenney (13) – 35 pts

NTPs; 1st – Scott Williams, 15th – Mitch Atlas

Congratulations the the RGC team of Mal Mottram, Mitch Atlas, Michael Nicholls Jnr & Shannon Wright who played in the Starlight Foundation Charity Golf Day at Kew Golf Club on Friday Sept 8th.  The team, handicap of 4, returned five under but were beaten by the Channel 9 team.  Mal won the Longest Drive and Michael won the raffle, an $800 Callaway driver.

Wednesday September 6th – Stableford

Play began on a cool, very windy morning.  The heavy dew was still present and it certainly assisted with putts on the first few holes.  The cold air and the soft fairways saw everyone lose distance and approach shots had to very accurate or risk stopping well short of the green.  The sun broke through over the final few holes and everyone was eager to get to the rooms and warm up.   It was good to welcome visitor Rollie O’Loughlin (Craigieburn G. C.) for his first round at Romsey.   On a cold, windy morning the results were;

1st; Wendy Gosden (32) – 32 pts.
2nd; Elaine Scanlon (33) – 31 pts.
3rd; Sherif Abdel-Sayed (26) – 28 pts c/b Rolland O’Loughlin (18) – 28pts.
Two competitions were runs as to include both 18 hole & 9 hole players, however the same player couldn’t win both competitions.

The best score for holes 1 – 9.
Equal 1st on all count backs – Sherif – 17pts. Rolland – 17pts.

Saturday September 2nd – 4BBB Stroke

Finally, on the second day of spring, a warm, sunny afternoon.  The oval was buzzing with the RDFL finals and their shouts, horns etc echoed across the course.  The spring growth was just beginning so plenty of work to come to keep the place under control.  4BBB Stoke allows teams to score individually and as a team, the best stroke score, after handicap,  on a hole is the team’s score.  While just about every golfer played some very ordinary golf here and there the conditions saw some excellent team scoring.  The day’s results were;

1st; Mal Mottram (8)/Ben Owen (19) – 65

2nd; Mitch Atlas (5)/Davey Kenney (13) – 66

3rd; Luke Lyons (9)/Dylan Harris (6) – 70

NTPs; 1st – Mitch Atlas, 15th – Brad Klaaysen

Wednesday August 30th – August Medal, stroke & putts.

The rain held off and the sun broke through for a pleasant round of stroke for the Women’s August Monthly Medal.  It was heavy going underfoot as a result of the recent rain but the greens were receptive and the brave shot in was rewarded. Sherif Abdel-Sayed found the greens to his liking and recorded the least putts for the day with 29 for the round.

Saturday August 26th – August Medal, stroke & putts

Saturday dawned with  overcast skies with some drizzle.  As the morning progressed the clouds lifted a little and the sun thought about poking through.  Overnight rain saw wet fairways with  most balls constantly slowed up by the moisture on the grass.  During the front nine the greens were also quite wet and putting required a little more courage than usual.  Just about everyone had the odd bad hole but  only a few could come back with two birdies to get the card back into good order.  On a cool afternoon the results were;

1st and August Medalist;  Zac Scales – 113/44/69

2nd;  Pat Chisholm – 84/12/72 C/B

3rd;  Simon Donovan – 83/11/72

NTPs;  15th – Dean Kohler & Drive & Pitch 3rd  – Davie Kenney
