Saturday February 26th – Rd 4B ’22 Summer Cup – Monthly Medal, stroke &putts

Another clear and reasonably still, late summer’s day for the final round of the ’22 Summer Cup and the February Medal.  A number of players were in good positions but, as in the past, it was not impossible for a bolter to come from behind and take out both the Summer Cup and the February Medal.   A few bare patches saw relief to a handspan on the fairway played but generally good conditions of the fairways and surrounds saw the vast majority pf balls were played as they lay. The good conditions saw some excellent scoring and it was how well the toughest hole on the course, the 18th, was played that finally decided the place getters. On a top day to be put on the park the results were;

Winner and February Medalist; Pat Chisholm – 80/13/67

2nd; Davey Kenney – 83/15/68

3rd; Mick Nicholls Jnr – 82/13/69

Sunday February 20th – Relay For Life Charity Golf Day, 4-player Ambrose

The club’s 14th Charity Golf Day got off to an excellent start, there was no wind, the high clouds kept the heat off the players and the course was in excellent condition.  Teams moved around the course either cheering their own good result or hearing the shouts and laughs from others as their birdie or eagle putts dropped.  It was a great morning, plenty of amazing and less than amazing golf being played and  Life Member Peter Scanlon manning the drinks cart making sure everyone was “well watered”.  Romsey Hardware were thanked for their ongoing support of this event.  On a top day to be out on the course raising funds for a top cause the results were;

Saturday February 18th – Rd 3B ’22 Summer Cup – Stableford

Another top day, clear skies and virtually no wind, to be out on the park for a round of golf.  Round 3B of the Summer Cup, Stableford, drew another strong field with a number of players looking to cement their position at the top of the leader board.  With good greens, despite some corella damage on the 8th and 15th and the surrounds in top nick this e who get to, or close to, the greens in regulation were looking at posting an good score.  While quite a few golfers played well under their handicaps but the day’s winner had an astounding  back nine that secured that day.  On another top day to be out on the park the results were;

Winner; Chris Manktelow -(40) – 42 pts

2nd; Anthony Lakey – (19) – 40 pts

3ds; Mal Mottram (7) – 37pts C/B Mitch Atlas (9)

NTPs; 15th – Bob <McLennan, 16th Mick Nicholls Jnr

Thursday February 17th – Hidden Valley Bowl

A Romsey team of Darlene Baker, Wendy Gosden and Jenny Hartley,  along with Beryl Cole, travelled to Hidden Valley Golf Club for the first of this year’s Dalhousie Districts Women’s Bowls/Tournaments. The weather was kind with a gentle breeze and moderate temperature. The course was in perfect conditions with lush fairways and perfect greens. Corellas could be seen about the course but, thankfully seemed to be staying off the greens.
Lisa Caines (Seymour) had a great round with the best score of 40 points.   The Romsey contingent had a lovely day of golf with their respective playing partners and enjoyed a beaut lunch in the clubhouse afterwards. Darlene received 3 points in the Dalhousie Player of the Year Award with her 34 points and she , Beryl and Jenny were lucky raffle winners.

The Hidden Valley team; Pam Hunter, Glenda Steer and Glenda Eddy was victorious on the day with a combined score of 103, closely followed by Lisa’s Seymour team with 102.

Wednesday February 16th – Rd 3A ’22 Summer Cup – Stableford

The hot and very humid conditions caught a few golfers off guard and there were some very hot players by the end of the round.  Scoring was difficult for some but others obviously found the conditions to their liking.
The green and surrounds are in excellent condition and the fairways are beaut which is an indication of the work all our volunteers are putting in each and every week.

Saturday February 12th – Rd 2B ’22 Summer Cup – Stroke

While the day dawned overcast and cool the skies soon cleared and the sun shone through.  The recent fertilising of the fairways and the modified irrigation regime saw good growth across the whole course; the barer patches are shrinking!  The strong field enjoyed the conditions and with the wind keeping to its gentle best some good scoring was expected.  Stroke often sees one bad hole destroy a players round and this was again the case for three players.  However, the day’s winner was able to play excellent golf all day.  On a top day to be out on the park the results were;

1st; Mal Mottram, – 76/7/69

2nd; Ron Walker – 95/24/71

3rd; Anthony Lakey – 93/19/74 C/B from Hugh Drummond & Clive Mensforth

NTPs; 15th & 16th – Mal Mottram

Saturday February 5th – Rd 1B ’22 Summer Cup – Par

The second part of the first round of the 2022 Summer Cup was played under slightly overcast conditions with an intermittent wind from the S/SW.   Later in the day the clouds lifted and the sun shone through making for a very pleasant final few holes.  Recent rains and reworking the irrigation regime saw far more green across the whole course, the couch is coming, may take a year or so but it is certainly present in all fairways.  The greens and surrounds were in top nick so no excuses there.  Par, always a tough game saw some excellent results, many near misses and the usual number of balls stopping just off the hole when a drop meant a positive.  On a top day to be out on the park the results were;

Winner; Davey Kenney (16) – +5

2nd; Mitch Atlas (11) – +4

3rd; Mal Mottram (7) – + 3

NTPs; 1st – Mick Squire, 15th – Steve Wilkins
