Sunday February 23rd – 12th RGC Relay For Life Charity Golf Day – 4 Player Ambrose, The Old Course.

After a week of cool weather the conditions for the Charity Golf Day were almost perfect.   Bright sunshine and the occasional gust of wind swinging between  east and all the way around to the west.  16 teams teed up with many vying for the “Best Uniform” award.  The course was very busy with motorised carts heading up the fairways or into the trees looking for the odd errant ball.  There were plenty of cheers as long birdie putts dropped or groans of despair when they just missed.  Players were even able to back themselves on the short Par 3 10th hole however  the westerly wind really played havoc pushing many balls well wide of the green..  To have any chance of taking out the top prize teams had to be at least two under the card.  After the round everyone headed to the rooms for  wonderful lunch.  All funds raised,  on the day, ~$2,500.00, went to “Puddles’ Team” and will be added to all other monies raised at the 2020 Lancefield & Macedon Ranges Relay For Life. The day was sponsored by Romsey Hardware.   The day’s results were;

Winners; The Runners Up – Daniel, Mitch, Savey & Trent – 41/5.5/35.5

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, “Puddles’ Team” members were kept very busy serving the

delicious lunch and desserts.

Saturday February 22nd – 2020 Summer Cup Rd 3B – Stableford

The beautiful mid summer day drew a good field with number of players taking advantage of the early tee-off times.  Conditions were excellent with a gentle zephyr of a breeze from the SE and generally good cover on the fairways.  Players got got value from well struck drives, the surrounds were in top nick and the greens putted very true so it was quite a surprise to read the scores at the groups came in.  Only one player was ably to beat his handicap with the next best four over.  Given the conditions quite surprising scores.  On a wonderful summer’s afternoon the results were;

Winner; Hugh Drummond (21) – 37 pts from Ron Walker (25) – 32 pts

NTPs; 1st – Les Gaunt, 15th – Mal Mottram, 16th – Anthony Lakey

Thursday February 20th – Hidden Valley Bowl – Hidden Valley G. C.

What a day over at Hidden Valley where the course was in great condition and the greens fast and true. Corellas have visited this course too but the damage seems to be confined to the fairways. A flock of over two hundred birds could be seen feasting on one of the fairways during the round.  Recent heavy rains have created puddles in the bunkers; some were designated “Ground Under Repair”.  The temperature for the day didn’t rise above 17°C with the wind chill factor making it uncomfortable for most of the round.
The Romsey Team of Wendy Gosden (27 pts)/Jenny Hartley (32 pts)/Darlene Baker(34 pts)  were the very excited overall winners of the Hidden Valley Bowl and were thrilled to take home the trophy.

Kaylene Cruise (Lancefield) had a wonderful day with the top score in the field of 30 players. Her 36 points earned her 5 points in the Player of the Year awards with Darlene Baker 4, Jillian Chandler 3, Jenny Hartley 2 and Lisa Caines 1.

Wednesday February 19th – 2020 Summer Cup Rd 3A – Stableford

Quite a large field took to the course for the third Wednesday round of the Summer Cup. The weather was challenging with drizzle, rain, and steady wind from the Sth.  To add more to the day’s challenge the chill factor belied the fact that we were still in summer!  The course was in tip top condition although the corellas have been up to no good again with extended damage to one of the greens. The day’s results showed that scoring was tough;
Winner; Jenny Hartley (24) – 37points from John Freestone (19) – 33 & Steve Wilkins (19)32

The 9 hole comp winner was Connie Cecys with 12 points

Tuesday February 18th – DDGA Women’s Player of the Year 4BBB Stableford – Seymour G. C.

48 players from 14 clubs assembled at Seymour for the DDGA Women’s 2019 Player of the Year 4BBB presentation.
The field was fortunate to miss the electrical storm which went around us. The fairways were lush, the heavy atmosphere and unusually limited summer run  scoring was a challenge.
Ricky Rickman was the proud winner of the DDGA Women’s 2019 Player of the Year. Glenda DDGA Captain enjoyed outlining Ricky’s rise to the top over the past 9 years.
A Grade winners; Marysville Gail Leigh and Margaret Blair with 38 stableford from a four way c/b including RGC pair Darlene Baker/Wendy Gosden.
B Grade winners; Chris Doherty (Trentham) Maureen Warrener (Woodend) with 42 points.

RGCs other representative scored well; Jenny Hartley/Elaine Scanlon  – 40 points and Beryl Cole/Lorraine Robb – 38 points

Sunday February 15th – DDGA MIxed 4BBB Stableford – Euroa G. C.

36 players assembled for the 4th annual mixed 4BBB at Euroa. It was lovely to see beautiful green grass.
Winners; Jenny ale Cref (Seymour)/Chris Hanson ( Broadford) – 45 pts from Kathy Keating (Trentham)/Mick Keating (Woodend) – 44 points.
RGC was represented by Elaine Scanlon who teamed up with past RGC member Rod Campbell (Broadford) to be mid field with 40 points.

Saturday February 15th – Rd 2B 2020 Summer Cup – Stroke

The second part of round two of the 2020 Summer Cup saw players walk to the tee with misty, drizzle falling.  Wet grass on the fairways made sure there was little run and putting required courage or balls ended well short of the cup.  Wind initially came from the west before moving to the south.  Every now and then the drizzle thickened and grips became slippery leading to some unusual shots that required very imaginative golf  to get back on the fairway or on to the green.  Despite the conditions a number of players were able to post very respectable scores.  On a cool, misty afternoon the results were;

Winner; Darlene Baker 2 under C/B Dave Kenney, from Anthony Lakey & Pat Chisholm – Even & Mal Mottram 1 over

NTPs; 15th – John Freestone

Wednesday February 12th – Summer Cup Rd 2A – Stroke

The summer weather continued to surprise as a thick drizzle accompanied the players for most of the round.  The fog became so thick at times that players were hitting out of sight and hoping for the best.  This Second Round of The Summer Cup was a stroke round and scoring well in the changed conditions was tricky.  With a birdie on the 5th, along with a run of pars from the 13th through to the 16th Darlene Baker managed to come out victorious.
On a cool, foggy morning the results were;
Winner; Darlene Baker – even from John Freestone – 2 over & Beryl Cole  C/B from Jenny Hartley – 5 over

NTP; 16th – Darlene Baker

Saturday February 8th – Summer Cup Rd 1B – Par

A strong field took to the course for the second part of the The Summer Cup’s round 1.  The round began with a steady wind from the south which wandered across to the east (very unusual) then back again.  Many members had been hard at work raking up leaves, small branches and bark, both cleaning up Romsey Park and giving golfers a better surface from which to play.  Despite the wind a number of players were able to card good scores, however, the stand-out performance came from current club champion Mick Squire;  On a breezy, mild summer’s day the results were;

Winner; Mick Squire (4)  +4 from Rob Rea (19) & Sherif Abdel-Sayers (27)  both +3, Mitch Atlas (11) , Dave Kenney (29), Hugh Drummond (21) & Mal Mottram (9) all +1

Women’s Winner; Lis Manktelow (24) +1

NTPs; 1st – Mick Squire, 15th – Mal Mottram & 16th – Hugh Drummond

Wednesday February 5th – Summer Cup Rd 1A -Par

Winner; Dean Jones (6)  -1 from John Freestone (21) -2 C/B Lis Manktelow (24)   -2
Social Golfers; Best score – Jan Harver from Colleen Duller
