Ivan Bray

Members were saddened to learn of the passing, after a long illness, of Ivan Bray.

Ivan was a much respected and generous member of the Club.

He was Club champion in 2001 and a member of the club’s successful 1996 Dalhousie Division 3 Scratch team.  Our sympathy to Pam and family.

Robert Maxwell “Max” Mitchell,

Members were also saddened to learn of the passing of RGC past member, club champion and captain, Robert “Max” Mitchell on the 20th January in the Western District.

Max played his first pennant match for the club when he was 15 years old and was club champion 1956-60, 1962, 1965, men’s Captain 1962.

Members will remember Max as a natural born sportsman who excelled in every aspect of golf.

Max was the son of Life members Phyllis and Algie Mitchell (dec) and brother of Peter (dec) John (dec) and Stephen.

During the 1950’s and early 1960’s Max, John and Peter took turns at playing in the club championships as the cows on the family farm needed to be milked however, it looks like he got off early on a few Saturdays between ’56 and ’60.

Max, with his brother John, relocated to the western District in the early 1970s to continue farming.  Our condolences to Nola and family

Romsey Golf Club (RGC) golf course has been at Romsey Park since 1922. We care for and improve the ~80% of Romsey Park that contains the Golf Course. Currently we have twelve greens and 18 tees. The course ratings are; Blue Tees; Men - Par 72, ACR 72, Slope 124 and Women - Par 76, ACR 77, Slope 129 Red Tees; Men - Par 70, ACR 68, Slope 114 and Women - Par 71, ACR 73, Slope 119. Indigenous native trees and bushes are planted to make the park/course more attractive to golfers, community members and native insects, birds, reptiles and small mammals, to provide shade and wind control and for carbon abatement. RGC is a totally volunteer run club. We hold mixed competitions on Wednesdays (9.00 am for 9.30 am hit-off) and on Saturdays (11.30 am for 12.00 pm hit-off). Twilight golf runs every Friday (~4.00 pm on) between November and February ($5.00 for golf and $5.00 for a light meal).
