For the first time this spring we had two consecutive days of magnificent weather and the town’s golfers headed down to Romsey Park for the RGC Melbourne Cup Stableford competition.  The club’s Cup Sweep was on, this year we needed two draws, and all players eager to see just which horse they drew.  The warmer, sunny days had dried the course considerably and all players got good distance both in the air and and on the fairway.  By mid-round a  strong breeze had blown up pushing balls south, this was great on the 18th but on other holes balls were pushed into the rough or behind the park’s many trees.  In the end it was a day for daring golf backed up by sensible golf, a balance few are able to achieve.  On a stunning Melbourne Cup Day the results were;

Winner; Toby Clement (24) – 39 pts from Davie Kenney (21) – 38 pts, Darlene Baker (21) – 37 pts & Mitch Atlas (9) – 36 pts
