Yet another pleasant day for the 1st round of the 2018 men’s championships, not much breeze and a temperature of 19C.  The heavy rain of Thursday evening had hardly softened the fairways but the greens had enjoyed the additional moisture.  After the long term dry spell there was varying cover on the fairways so relief, to a club length, was given.  All players who were able to drive straight enjoyed good distance off  the tee.  The greens were still running true with a good pace, but not as quite  as fast as last week. Scores depicted a course that is playing hard for this time of the year and judging pace on the greens still has a few out of sorts. Attacking the greens with loft is the preferable shot to play as the greens were releasing the ball softly.  On one more wonderful day for golf the scores were;

The Day’s Winner; Michael Squires – 78/7/71 from Mal Mottram – 83/11/72 & Rob Rea – 91/18 73

NTP: 1st – Les Gaunt, 15th – Hugh Drummond & 16th – Andrew Clement
